This writing challenge has been fun yet tasking so far. So for Day 2 of the UX Writing challenge organized by UX Writers Africa, the UX writers community I belong to, we were given a task to write a sports copy. In order not to bore you, let me show you the task.
Here’s what I came up with.
For my content approach, after researching major sports apps, I tried to put myself in the user’s shoes to understand what will make him excited to open the app. I also drew my headline copy insight from the recent loss of Manchester United loss during their recent game, this informed my headline copy, “City — 5, United-0.
This will immediately spark the user’s interest to want to see more. Then for my body copy, I spoke to the pain points of the user and offered him a solution to enjoy the game and stay up to date with sports news even when he’s busy.
The call to action was very simple and straightforward forward as I believe it speaks to my body copy and encompass the action I would like the user to take.
My challenge: I’m not a sports enthusiast so this one was particularly hard for me. I re-wrote this five times before I felt satisfied with the final copy. Also, I struggle with writing a micro-copy because I’m a content writer and I’m quite comfortable with long-form writing. Coming out of my shell has been interesting so far. Kudos to all sports writers out there, it’s not easy.
As always, your feedback is always welcome and I’m open to discussions in the comments. Thank you.
