Google’s quest for integrating AI across its products and services continues as the tech giant is now turning to using it for enhancing the Play Store experience. According to reports, Google is experimenting with using AI to generate information for the App Highlights section in the Play Store.

An update shared on social media by code sleuth @AssembleDebug has revealed that when users tap on an app in the Play Store, they may now see information about the app’s features and functionality summarised by an AI system. Google explicitly notes that the details are summarised by artificial intelligence.

The App Highlights section provides users with an overview of what they can expect upon downloading an app, such as features like direct messaging, live streaming, and more:

Currently, this AI-generated feature is a server-side change that Google has enabled for a limited number of users. Google has not yet announced when the feature will be rolled out to all users.

Google’s relentless pursuit of finding new ways to leverage AI across its apps and services is evident, as the company continues to explore how AI can improve its app store.

Previously, Google was spotted testing AI-generated FAQs within the Play Store, providing insights into why people download specific apps, what users enjoy most, and what the app offers.

AI integration is not limited to the Play Store, as Google has also introduced AI-powered features in other products. For example, Android Auto received an AI-driven message summarisation feature toward the end of 2023 which uses AI to summarise text messages while users are focused on driving.

While using Google’s AI features is optional, they are becoming increasingly difficult to avoid as the company continues to integrate them into various aspects of its products and services.
