The Brihan Mumbai Electric Supply & Transport Undertaking (BEST) has announced the awarding of a significant contract to a consortium comprising Olectra Greentech Limited and Evey Trans Private Limited for the supply, operation, and maintenance of 2,400 electric buses. The contract, structured as a gross cost contract or wet lease, was finalised on Thursday, marking a substantial leap towards sustainable public transportation in Mumbai.
Under the terms of the agreement, the consortium is tasked with delivering 2,400 electric buses within the span of 18 months. Olectra Greentech, the primary supplier, estimates the value of supplying these buses at Rs 4,000 crore.
The contract encompasses a comprehensive 12-year period for the operation and maintenance of the electric buses. Evey Trans Private Limited will facilitate the procurement of buses from Olectra Greentech Limited, with the latter assuming responsibility for the maintenance of the buses throughout the duration of the contract.
This strategic partnership signifies a concerted effort by BEST to bolster its fleet with environmentally friendly and sustainable transportation options.
