First Train Set Unveiled For Meerut Metro Project Handed Over To NCRTC In Gujarat

Under the manufacturing contract awarded to M/s Alstom, the Meerut Metro project will receive ten three-car train sets bundled with rolling stock maintenance for 15 years

The first look of the Meerut Metro train set was unveiled and handed over to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) at Savli, Gujarat  on Friday. Vinay Kumar Singh, MD NCRTC, revealed the train set with the click of a button in the presence of several dignitaries, including Nitin Ramesh Gokarn, Additional Chief Secretary, Uttar Pradesh, and Olivier Loison, MD of Alstom, the company responsible for manufacturing the train sets. 

The ceremony also saw the ceremonial keys being handed over to MD, NCRTC, signifying the commencement of delivery of the train sets, which will soon arrive at the NCRTC Depot at Duhai.

In a video message, Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs, expressed his best wishes for the occasion. He highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure and praised the progress made in expanding India’s metro network. Vinay Kumar Singh, MD NCRTC, emphasised the significance of the Meerut Metro project in providing modern transportation solutions and integrating with the country’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). He highlighted the implementation of advanced signalling systems, reflecting global standards in rail transportation.

Under the manufacturing contract awarded to M/s Alstom, the Meerut Metro project will receive ten three-car train sets bundled with rolling stock maintenance for 15 years. These trainsets boast sleek design, energy efficiency, and advanced features such as regenerative braking system and compatibility with Automatic Train Protection (ATP), Automatic Train Control (ATC), and Automatic Train Operations (ATO). The maximum operational speed of the Metro train is 120 kmph.

The Meerut Metro aims to revolutionise transportation in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, providing a safe, fast, and modern commuting experience for residents. The unveiling of the train set marks a significant step towards achieving this goal, with trial runs set to commence soon.

The Metro train sets are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including air conditioning, comfortable seating, luggage racks, CCTV cameras, mobile charging facilities, dynamic route maps, infotainment systems, and ambient lighting. Safety features such as Platform Screen Doors (PSDs) at all stations and emergency egress devices ensure passenger safety and security.

The Metro corridor spans 23 km with 13 stations, including underground and elevated sections. Construction is progressing rapidly, with viaduct construction nearing completion on the elevated sections and finishing works underway at the underground stations. The entire Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is set to be operational before the targeted timeline of June 2025, marking a significant leap in India’s urban transportation infrastructure.
